Hello Eagle Nation!
Congratulations to our Flag, JV and Varsity squads for pulling out wins in Week 1.

League Rules
Whether your player is a first year tackle player, is in his first year at a new level (Fresh/JV/Varsity,) or is still learning new plays, we know how frustrating it can be as a parent, and as a player to not get the same amount of playing time as someone else. The freshman and JV team have the developmental squad which was designed to help those players get up to speed and earn more playing time in the game. We never want to discount the players who play on the developmental squad either. As a parent who has had players play on the developmental squad, I knew it was my job to teach my player that he is only there until he can show the coach that he is ready to go in the game. Keep encouraging your players and stay positive! Practice is hard, but practice is where players learn the necessary skills to become the very best version of themselves! Here are a couple excerpts from our league rules regarding attendance and minimum plays. GO EAGLES!

1.1.5  In the event that a Team has completely uniformed thirty-three (33) or more players, each player must receive a minimum of four (4) plays per half. In the event that a Team has completely uniformed twenty-seven (27) to thirty-two (32) players, each player must receive a minimum of five (5) plays per half. In the event that a Team has completely uniformed twenty-six (26) or less players, the minimum amount of plays is six (6) per half. For Freshman and JV Non-Developmental players, five (5) plays minimum per player, per half regardless of roster size. Freshman and JV Developmental players will play four (4) minutes prior to the start of the regular Freshman and JV game and four (4) minutes prior to the start of the second half of the Freshman and JV game and not a specific number of plays.

6.5.1 Any otherwise eligible player having two (2) unexcused absences from practices during a game week shall be held out for 1st half of that week’s game. Any otherwise eligible player having three (3) or more unexcused absences from practice during a game week shall not participate in that week’s game. Each Unit shall have the right to grant the Head Coach for any Team in a Unit the discretion to limit the playing time of any player who has missed more than two (2) or more practices in any given week, based on considerations for player(s) safety.

Eagles Nest
There will not be an in person Eagles Nest this week due to Cheer having the week off practice and the Labor Day holiday.  We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend.

High School Youth Nights
Each of our teams is different. Some weeks our coaches need every minute with the players to prepare for our opponent ahead. When we can, we love to have the kids to enjoy a high school game where they are celebrated as the youth teams in the area. The first Youth Night is this Thursday, 8/31 at Churchill High School. Players wearing the jersey and cheerleaders wearing their gear will be admitted for free. Parents will have to pay admittance and do need to stay at the game. There will be bleachers in the South End Zone for the players to sit on.

It is encouraged by Churchill that the youth players meet their coach at the entrance at 6:15 P.M. and enter as a team. Whether a Coach or Director walks in with the player or not, your player is your responsibility. Remind your player that when they are at the game, they are representing the Livonia Eagles. We tell the kids at every Eagles Nest, they are leaders on the field, leaders in the classroom, and leaders in the community!
(We are aware that some coaches have practice on Thursday, and the final call is on them whether they have time to dismiss early or are just going to encourage the players to go to the game after practice. Coaches or Team Mom's will broadcast more info out on Sports Engine.)

For planning purposes, here are the other two Youth Night dates.
Stevenson High School 9/8
Franklin High School 10/13

Homecoming
Homecoming is typically a celebration to kick-off the season, filled with Eagle Spirit and fun activities for all. This year's theme is Hawaiian. The date for 2023 is September 16, 2023. To provide you with more details on what to expect, below is a list of what has been done in past Homecomings.
Floats: In the past, teams and their families have made themed floats to ride around in during half-time.  Look for information from your Team Mom's on this aspect.  We will need lots of parent help to pull this off.  Posters: Parents are also encouraged to make a poster for their player or cheerleader to hang on the fence that day. Some families choose to make homemade posters with the player’s picture, squad, jersey number and whatever extra decorations that you'd like to add. Other families choose to have posters made at Costco, Vistaprint, Overnight Signs on 5 Mile or other photo processing centers. Have fun with it but no need to break the bank.
We need convertibles!  It is tradition the exiting 8th graders ride in convertibles/ jeeps/ broncos during the parade.  If you have a vehicle that fits the bill and are able to help us please contact your Team Mom.  All trucks, floats and convertibles need to be on the track by 8:00 am. The first parade around the track will be after the Flag Football game.  All convertibles, trucks and floats need to go around during each parade.  Subsequent parades will be held during half-time of each game.  The ceremony for 8th graders will be held before the JV game.
